John Florence Wins Pipe Pro
One of today’s best young surfers showed a few of the veterans how it’s done at a big event on the North Shore of Oahu yesterday.
18-year old John John Florence put on an amazing show for the last day of the2011 Volcom Pipe Pro. The North Shore prodigy was constantly finding big deep tubes at his home break from day one of theASP 5-Star competition until he reached the finals.
Pipeline and Backdoor were perfection for most of the event, but on the final day of action the four remaining surfers in the final scored epic 10 to 12 foot barrels that you could fit a bus inside.

It was made-up of Hawaiians Aamion Goodwin, Pipe charger Jamie O’Brien, John John Florence and San Clemente’s Chris Ward who’s definitely no stranger to Backdoor and Pipe. But, it was the youngster who picked off two solid scores… a 9.93 and a 8.43 that gave him a good lead and the win.
Florence pocketed $16,000 for first, 1,000 points to start of the 2011 ASP contest season and a wildcard spot into the Pipeline Masters next December. Earlier this month John John Florence also came out on top at a specialty event at his home break, the Backdoor
