Trevor Jacob Train Jump

It has been nearly 15 years since the train jumping stunt was conceived by Temple Cummins and Andy Hetzel. Malibu California’s Trevor Jacob retraced their steps up Donner Summit and decided to hop the hobo highway in tribute to their pioneering efforts. Though he wasn’t the first rider to ever jump a train Trevor is the only rider to jump a train on something other than a Palmer snowboard. Actually Trevor jumped 4 separate trains this day.

The strongest earthquake to hit Japan in at least 300 years rocked the country on Friday afternoon, triggering a 10-meter (30-foot) tsunami that violently engulfed cars and buildings in its path in northern Japan, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes and setting off tsunami warnings

 for 53 countries around the world.

The tsunami now rages towards Hawaii on its war path.

Well, its' been a long drawn out competition (thanks to wonderful Mother Nature), but it has finally come to a close, and this years Quicksilver Champion is The Legend

 Kelly Slater. 

In a crazy come from behind win, Kelly Slater beat Taj Burrow in the final round. What an upset if you thought (like myself) that it would come down to Jordy Smith or Taj Burrow.

Heats 4 and 5 complete

Looking ahead to the Finals

It's coming down to the wire, and it will be a battle of the top surfers. With heats 4 and 5 completed yesterday, we are left with anticipation to see who the crown of the  2011 Quick Pro Champion belongs to. The quarters, semi, and final rounds will all be completed by tonight. Australia's Taj Burrow and South Africa's Jordy Smith both had great rounds yesterday. And if you're a die hard Slater, keep your fingers crossed, he remains in an option, and we all know what the legend is capable of.

This is pretty nuts! Last week on jump 5 in the Snowmass park in Colorado, Mark Mcmorris stomped the first ever Backside Triple Cork 1440. The crew was sessioning the public park for the upcoming "Park Sessions" Project coming Fall 2011

Rookie of the Year

Owen Wright Rookie of the Year

Last night Rip Curl's Owen Wright was crowned 2010 Rookie of the Year at the ASP World Surfing Awards at the Gold Coast convention center. Surfing's night of nights hosted the world's best surfers including the current ASP World Tour and distinguished figures from the surfing industry. 

In 2010 Owen finished the year as the World No. 7, with his best result and equal third at the Billabong Pro in Brazil.

The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships, held at Stratton Mountain Vermont every March, has been home to the best competitive riding for 29 consecutive years - longer than any other snowboard event in the world. With the continued absence of suitable swell, event organizers at the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast have called competition off for the 4th consecutive day.

The opening event of the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast have yet to recommence competition since last Saturday, but a promising looking forecast for the end of the waiting period could have the worlds best surfers go out with a bang.

After a bit of speculation, TTR has confirmed that it’s impossible for anyone to catch Peetu’s points lead and he is the TTR World Champ. With an impressive 2011 season that included wins at the Burton European Open (pipe, he got 2nd in slope), and Air & Style Munich, and podiums at pretty much every other event, Peetu has not only claimed the title for the third year in a row, but also become the first one to ever win three TTR titles in a row.

Greg Bretz and Spencer O'Brien made sure to wrap up the Winter Dew Tour the best way they know how - on the podium.

For his part, Greg dominated the men's snowboard Superpipe, landing a backside 540, frontside double cork 1080, Cab 1080 double cork, frontside 900, backside 900 and frontside 1080 - the back-to-back doubles were his first.

Iouri Podladtchikov Takes TTR #1 World Ranking

Iouri Podladtchikov (trying saying that 10 times fast) moves to the #1 spot of the TTR World Rankings despite third place finish at Burton European Open.

It was Finnish halfpipe machine, Peetu Piiroinen, who took down the win for the second year in a row, which improved his position in the World Rankings to World No. 3.
